Mary Introduction

Mary's Litany

The Virgin's merciful heart sympathizes with family needs; she will shower on them that comfort which they miss in the inevitable sorrows of the present life; under her motherly care the joys of the fireside will become for them purer and more peaceful.  The holy Virgin not only knows from personal experience a family's heavy burdens; as a tender Mother of Mercy she strives to lighten the burdens. (1)   Pius XII, pope

The restoration of a high moral tone to the life, work and love of the human family through the merits of Our Lord and Savior was first and forever accomplished with the aid of a woman, ever humbly alert to the responsibilities of her motherly mission among the children of men. (2)  Pius XII, pope

I dedicate myself, with all who belong to me, forever to your service, and beseech you, O Mother of God, to receive us into the number of your servants, by taking us all under your protection, helping us in life, and still more at the hour of our death. (3)  St. Alphonsus de Liguori

Bless me and all my family, and do not permit that any of us should offend your Son.  Defend us in temptations, deliver us from dangers, provide for us our necessities, counsel us in our doubts, comfort us in our afflictions, assist us in our infirmities, and especially in the sorrows of death. (4)  St. Alphonsus de Liguori

Never allow the devil to glory in having in his chains any of us who love you; and grant that we may go to heaven to thank you, and together with you to praise and love Jesus our Redeemer for all eternity. (5)  St. Alphonsus de Liguori

The Immaculate Virgin exhorts us to be brothers and sisters to one another, all united by the commitment to build together a world that is more just, supportive and peaceful. (6)  Benedict XVI, pope
